[edit] Immigration and Residency
[edit] General Information
- The official Uruguayan government Immigration Department website (Spanish).
- On deciding between applying for continual tourists visas or starting the residency process.
[edit] Tourist Visas
- An older (possibly-obsolete) posting implied that one does not need a round trip ticket in order to come to Uruguay on a tourist visa, and it's easy to keep extending tourist visas indefinitely (2009-03).
- A contradictory, but more recent blog post indicating that although the Uruguayan immigration officials didn't seem to care about round trip tickets, a number of foreign airline officials insisted on having a round-trip ticket before allowing a passenger to travel to Uruguay (2009-08).
- Information on renewing your visitors' visa in Montevideo (2009-07). The prices have increased since the linked post was written: the charge is UYU 391 as of 2010-03. Additionally, lines at DNM can vary widely (the post quotes a half hour, but the author has seen the process take almost an hour and a half!).
[edit] Customs
- The official customs website which describes what you can bring with you free of charge, as luggage, when entering the country as a tourist (Spanish).
- If you are arriving at Carrasco airport, it appears that you can fill out your customs forms online from the website of the main Carrasco airport website (Spanish).
[edit] Residency Process
- The Residency Process for Dummies (Uruguay Wiki's own, created in 2010) provides detailed information on the costs and procedures associated with applying for residency on your own.
- Immigration and Residency information produced by a Uruguayan legal firm (2007-11)
- One blog posting of the residency permit immigration process.
- More blogger posts about citizenship and residency.
- The government passed new regulations in August 2009 regarding the residency process (Spanish). Here is a machine-translated English version of the new residency laws.
- The official Uruguayan government site for the residency process is under construction and has zero information as of 2009-10, but Archive.org has a cached copy of the Uruguayan government residency page that has more detailed (although possibly out-of-date) information.
