Some of the main supermarkets in Uruguay are:
- Tienda Inglesa - medium to large-size grocery and variety stores. There is a large Tienda Inglesa at the Montevideo Shopping complex.
- Devoto
- Disco
- Geánt - situated out past Carrasco, this is the closest equivalent to a "big box" grocery and variety store that the country offers.
- Tata, a smaller supermarket and variety store
- Micro Macro
Some bloggers have also briefly written (2007-03) about Uruguayan supermarkets in general.

Ferias (farmers markets) are one other cheap place to get various types of food.

- Organic food can be found in various places in Montevideo, including some farmers' markets, a dedicated organic store, and more.
- Some postings about the availability of raw and/or organic vegetarian food.
- A blog about finding organic produce in Montevideo.
- A local company called Alimentos Nutriciencia produces gluten-free food.
- The Mercado Verde store provides a selection of organic foods.

- Bambu also sells Asian staples.
- Namaste is a vegetarian cafe in Montevideo.

- De Buen Comer has a list of Uruguayan restaurants too.
- Another neighborhood-based restaurant listing (with addresses and cross streets) for Montevideo.
- Peidos Ya allows you to review restaurant menus (and order?) online.
- TripAdvisor has a listing of 99 restaurants (with mostly-English reviews) in Montevideo.
- Red Pedidos, a service launching in June 2010.
